DVAM Code-Purple: Day Twenty

Rebuilding
Can take a lifetime.
I am quiet now–
Quieter still
Than the night.

For years now
I have barred windows,
Built barracks
And trenches
In which to hide.

One wrong move
Can hold me hostage.
One resounding cry
Can scare me
Towards the door.

Learning to dislodge
These reactions
Can take a lifetime.
I am no more better
Than you were best.

I am splintered
On the smooth
And dulled upon
The rough edges
Of broken faith.
